Suffolk Virginia Bathymetric Map, 3D Wood Lake Art, Sapele Frame

Some places become part of who we are. The early mornings on Lake Prince, the afternoons along Lake Meade and Lake Cohoon, the Nansemond River winding its way toward the James, and the roads you could drive without a second thought.

This 3D bathymetric map of Suffolk, Virginia brings those memories home. Your memories and our maps. 💙

The Details

Lake Prince, Lake Meade, Lake Cohoon, Lake Kilby, and the Nansemond River are built from 8 layers of wood in graduated shades of blue, so you can see the depth beneath the surface. The surrounding roads, from Kings Fork Rd and Holland Rd to White Marsh Rd and the downtown street grid, are engraved in fine detail, finished with a compass rose and a hand-lettered Suffolk title.

The map is housed in a solid Sapele hardwood frame that I build in my shop. Sapele has a warm reddish-brown tone and a subtle grain that complements the light wood and blue water beautifully.
